  • Barry Dean VanGorden of Middletown, N.Y. passed away on May 26, 2026 at his home. He was 80.

  • The son of Clyde and Marion VanGorden, he was born on March 1, 1946 in Middletown, N.Y.

  • He retired from IBM after many years of dedicated service and lived by the values of honesty, responsibility, and leading by example. He was known for being direct, thoughtful, dependable, and true to his word. Throughout his life, he faced many hardships with strength, dignity, and determination. He loved nature and found joy in fishing, photography, animals, and the outdoors, especially cats. An accomplished fly fisherman, he spent many treasured days on the Beaver Kill trout stream and tied his own flies with skill and patience. He had a lifelong love of learning and was always reading, researching, and expanding his knowledge. He also appreciated the arts, especially literature and the paintings of Van Gogh. A devoted movie lover, he built a large DVD collection and enjoyed sharing favorite films and stories with others. He valued the friendships he made throughout his life and treasured the memories they shared. Above all, he loved and protected his family. He was steady and dependable, always making sure those he cared about were safe and looked after. As long as he was with us, we knew he had us covered. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Survivors include his children Jacqueline VanGorden of Pennsylvania and Daniel VanGorden of Middletown, N.Y. His grandchildren Gregory (Vivian), Kimberly (Bryan) and Daniel. His great grandchildren Anthony, Mia, Maya, Jackson and Eilythia. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Gregory VanGorden and his brother Clyde VanGorden and his sister Nancy VanGorden.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
