Frances Grosso of Middletown, N.Y., a former bookkeeper and longtime resident of the area, passed away on December 26, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was 103.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Michael Grosso.
The daughter of the late John and Katherine Lyons Carvino she was born on May 15, 1922 at her home in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was awarded a full scholarship to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. to pursue an art education but chose to take her life in another direction. Frances had the most beautiful singing voice, and was offered a chance to sing with a big band during World War II, but show business was not for her.
Frances was an avid reader and always had a book in her hand, often in the process of reading seven or eight books at a time. Frances read all the great books including the Holy Bible three times. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to experience many things in life and to never stop learning. Everyone who met her commented on her loving smile and warm welcome. She was devoted to St. Anthony and the Sacred Heart.
Survivors include her children Vivien Lyons; Carol Mele; Michael Grosso (Dorene) and John Grosso (Regina). Her grandchildren Katherine, Vivien, Michael, Maegen, Theresa, Rory, John-Paul and Connor. She is also survived by her ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held on Friday January 2, 2026 from 4-7 P.M. at the Martinez Morse Funeral Home 33 Railroad Avenue Middletown, N.Y.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 3, 2026 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Euclid Ave. Middletown, N.Y.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Middletown, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.
