James Wayne McCarey (82), of Middletown, NY and Palm City, FL, born July 27, 1943, to David Sweezy McCarey and Bertha Struble McCarey Krawiec entered into rest on January 13th 2026.
He is survived by his long-time companion and caregiver, Brenda Cosner; his daughter, Kimberly Ann McCarey, and son-in-law, Larry Wummer; his son, Adam James McCarey, and daughter-in-law, Ashley; and his grandchildren, Addison Rose, Amelia Grace, and Austin Miles. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Hunt-Murray; his brothers, John (Winifred) and Leo (Sharon); and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Jean Patmore, David, William, and Millard Robert.
A graduate of Middletown High School and a Vietnam Veteran.
Jim served the City of Middletown as a Professional Firefighter for 22 years earning numerous life safety medals and public service awards. He was driver for McQuoid Engine & Ladder Company #3 and was also a member of Ontario’s Hose Company #5. Served as Orange County Fire Coordinator, the first administrator of the Orange County Fire Training Center, and 4th Ward Councilman for the Town of Wallkill, NY.
In 1971, Jim opened McCarey’s Real Estate, where he worked as a broker and developer. Long-time member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #1097.
Visitation hours will be held on Friday January 23, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Martinez Morse Funeral Home 33 Railroad Avenue Middletown, N.Y.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 24, 2026 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 90 Euclid Ave. Middletown, N.Y.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Wallkill Cemetery Town of Wallkill, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or Treasure Coast Hospice (Florida).
