Joseph M. Cooper

Joseph M. Cooper of Otisville, New York passed away on September 23, 2026 at his home after a long illness. He was 46.

The son of Ethel Cooper, Joseph was born in Middletown, N.Y. on June 23, 1980.

He was graduated with honors from both Albany State University in Albany, NY and Mt. St. Mary’s College in Newburgh, N.Y.

Joseph was a registered nurse and worked in the N.Y. State Corrections Department at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center and the Shawangunk Correctional Facility.

Survivors include his mother Ethel Cooper of Otisville, N.Y. He is also survived by his aunts, Grace North of Ellenville, NY and Linda Travis of Liberty, NY, his uncles, Michael Cooper (wife, Judy) of Ridgebury, NY and Anthony Cooper of Middletown, NY, numerous cousins and friends.

Joseph had a great love of music and nature and enjoyed playing his guitar and taking nature walks. His favorite prayer was the Hail Mary, so we trust that Our Blessed Mother was with him “at the hour of his death” leading him to her Son, Jesus.

Joseph’s mother, Ethel, cherishes the times they spent together and will miss him deeply.

A Latin Requiem Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday October 9, 2026 at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Church 149 Cottage Street Middletown, New York. The burial will follow in the Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery in Otisville, N.Y.
