Melvin “Mel” Schneider passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, in Newburgh, New York, leaving behind a legacy of fierce opinions, a sharp wit, and unwavering conviction. Born on May 14, 1955, in Paterson, New Jersey, Mel was the son of Walter and Margaret (Nelson) Schneider. Mel was passionate, outspoken, and remarkably stubborn in the best of ways. Beneath that fire was a heart of gold as solid as they come. Though his opinions were strong, Mel’s presence was steady and dependable. He was known for his dry humor and a deep kindness that ran through everything he did. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Mel worked hard throughout his life and took great pride in his job at NSK Bearings in Pennsylvania, where he eventually retired. He was a longtime resident of the Village of Unionville, New York, where he led a modest, fulfilling life surrounded by friends and neighbors. Many in the community knew him as a skilled and trusted handyman, always willing to lend a hand. Mel was a simple man who didn’t need much to be content; meaningful conversations and the company of close friends were more than enough. Mel will be laid to rest at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa, New Jersey, alongside his parents and his brother, Walter “Sunny” Schneider Jr. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered for his loyalty, warmth, and the fierce devotion he gave to those he loved. He will always be remembered as a loyal and trusted friend. In his honor, we invite you to share a memory, recall a debate you never quite finished, or simply raise a glass to a man who always spoke his mind—and meant every word of it. RIP Mel!
