Muriel Merritt

Muriel H. Merritt of Slate Hill, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died on November 26, 2016 at her home after a long illness with her daughters by her side. She was 84. The daughter of the late Richard and Randi Madsen Woeckener, she was born on September 29, 1932 in Passaic, N.J. She was the widow of Robert A. Merritt. Survivors include her children Julie LaFleur of Slate Hill; Monika Hesse of Deltona, Florida and Lena Barrett and her husband Tom of Middletown, New York. Her sister Wally Purdy of Middletown and her brother Siegfried Woeckener and his wife Charlotte of Otisville, N.Y. Her granddaughters Michelle Deragon and her husband Ray of Fredericksburg, VA. and Jennifer Hesse of Deltona, Florida. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.
