Ruben R. Rivera

Ruben’s story began on Thursday, August 30, 1951, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he was born to the late Justina Rosado and Aniceto Rivera.

He attended Tomas Carrio Maduro, where he met Migdalia Melendez. Together they shared life from 1969 to 1978 and welcomed four beautiful children during that time.

In 1978, at the age of 27, Ruben relocated to Newburgh, New York, alongside his brother, the late Santos Rivera. He began working at Regal Bag Factory and later pursued his true passions—painting, landscaping, and mechanical work. His dedication and skill touched many homes throughout Orange County. It was also in Newburgh where Ruben met Patricia (Patti) Morgan. The two married on January 1981, and from their loving union came eight children.

For the past five years, Ruben resided in Bloomingburg with his daughter Iesa and son-in-law Jahmel, where he courageously battled lengthy illnesses with strength and grace. On Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by love, Ruben passed away at Westchester Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Justina and Aniceto Rivera; four brothers, Carlos, Maximino, Angel, and Santos; and one sister, Hilda.

Ruben leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Rivera; six daughters, Betsy Rivera Melendez (Robert Merino Carrasco), Brenda Liz Rivera Melendez, Elba Rivera Melendez (Juan Ortiz Garcia), Iesa Rivera Stokes (Jahmel Stokes), Christina Rivera, and Tanairi Rivera Burton (Herman Burton); six sons, Carlos Rivera Melendez (Kathy Rivera), Martin Flores (Tara Flores), James Flores, Joseph Calderon, Ruben Rivera Jr. (Abigail Rivera), and Carlos Juan Rivera (Lakeisha Rivera). He is also survived by two sisters, Conchita Rivera Posadas (David Posadas) and Isabel Rivera, and one brother, Manuel Rivera.

Ruben’s love continues through his 35 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
