Steven A. Gumbs, a beloved resident of Schenectady, New York and former longtime resident of Middletown, New York, passed away on April 15, 2025, at the age of 40, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born on August 9, 1984, in the Bronx, Steven was the cherished son of Stafford and Mellocynth Gumbs. He grew up in Middletown and was a proud graduate of Pine Bush High School, where he was a valued member of the football team and formed lasting friendships that carried into his adult life.
Steven dedicated over two decades of his life to Price Chopper/Market 32, serving in numerous roles before most recently working as a food safety inspector. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and genuine care for his colleagues. His passion for sports was well-known—Steven was an avid fan of the NY Mets, NY Giants, and WWE, and his enthusiasm was infectious.
In 2013, Steven met the love of his life, Nicole Lipscomb, and the two were married on May 6, 2016. Steven was a devoted and loving husband, cherishing every moment they shared. In October 2024, they proudly purchased their first home together, a milestone that brought Steven great joy. He took pride in making it a welcoming space filled with laughter and love.
Steven will be remembered for his radiant smile, kind heart, and zest for life. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, and friend—always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer support. His warmth touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nicole Lipscomb Gumbs; his parents, Stafford and Mellocynth Gumbs of Middletown; his sisters, Nicole Gumbs and Alvenese Gumbs of Middletown; his nieces and nephews, Camren, Hayla, Kamara, and Amir; and his Grandmother Janet Hector. In addition, he leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will cherish his memory.
Visitation hours will be held on Saturday April 26, 2025 from 1-3 P.M. at the Martinez-Morse Funeral Home 33 Railroad Ave. Middletown, N.Y.
A Funeral Service will follow at 3 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
